James High Auto Alarm

*I walk over to the next window lookiinf to open it, and to my surprise I find a window A/C unit. I skip that window and go to the next. I open the window and can see a swirl of smoke out the window. I look at it closer and see in fact it is smoke, not CO2.... As the room continues to clear I can see another door. It goes to the room ajoining this one. The door is missing a few panes of glass in that look as though they came out awhile ago.

'Lt. That isn't anything from dry ice, but it is still too cold in here for it to be a fire, don't you think?'

*I continue to search for evidence of where the smoke is coming from. I can also start to hear a faint humming sound through my mask as I walk past the Mid window containing the AC but figure it is traffic.

(Ok Im behind you Jack)
'Damn, no fire.'
*I say a bit angrily since my adrenaline hit an all time high for some reason.*
'You ready for the next room?'

" pump 11 command, im outside your room with either your back up line or a line for the next door room, i have colwell backing me"
* i watch the crews enter the room and begin searching and wait outside in the hallway*

" Pump-11 Command to Matthews, go ahead and enter the room next to us, watch for flashover or Backdraft. Something has to be fueling this smoke. "

*I notice a funny smell*
'Hmm smell the smoke? no fire just smocke'
*I look up and notice a vent*
'I think it's coming from there doesn't mean it's on our floor'

*I keep my eyes open and grab my mask which I had connected to the end of my scba holder at home. I put my mask on and attach the facepiece, tightening all straps. I breathe in air and the valve pops open allowing me to breathe in the pressurized air.*
'Much better. Uhh Jack, I see nothing in this room but the vents that are leading to the other rooms, are smoking up.'
"Rescue 1 command to P-11, you got anything in the room over?"

"R-1 command to LFO, we got smoke on the third floor. We're trying to find the source now."
*I put my mic back down and keep looking.*
(Goodnight)

*I notice the heat begining to build and see an increase of smoke being given off. I look to the wall seperating the rooms but don't see anything. I look at the ceiling and still notice nothing. All I know is the room is heating and smoke is building up even with the windows open.

(anyone see the movie backdraft? that what i'm going for here it should pretty much self extinguish)

*I notice the vents and remember going on a tour when i first joined ERT in case we ever got called here. I can remember that the next and last room is the boiler room*
'If it's down here it's in here'
*I feel the wall and the door very well and check the handle*
'It looks good guess there is nothing down here'
*I open the door and there is an eerie silence as I open it i feel an awkward vacuum and my instincts kick in I drop to the ground clear of the door as the fire explodes out over top of me*
'BACKDRAFT'
*I reach for my mic as i hear the fire disappear back into the room*
'DAVIS are you okay?'
"Cressler to all units we had a backdraft down here but something was weird about it there were no signs i check the door i checked for heat the door wasn't breathing and it seems to have self extinguished itself
BREAk
Be advised it was in the boiler room make sure it's not in the vent I don't believe it is usually these systems have shut down valves to keep it from spreading. There doesn't appear to be much damage except for the contents of the room"

"R-1 command to Cressler, any injuries down there?"
*I take my glove off and feel that its starting to get cooler in the room and not much smoke is coming out of the vents as before.*
"Rescue 1 command to LFO, advise if we should call a PFD Fire Marshal. BREAK COPA, do we have any PFD Fire Marshals available?"

"Rescue one keep searching upstairs, Pumper 11 bring me down a 2 1/2 just in case." I say and make my way toward the boiler room.

"Units, I'm getting reports of a backdraft, do we have active fire?"
*I check the lists of active PFD personnel and units, but see no active marshalls*
"That's a negative on the marshall. Why do we need a marshall out there, we might have an ERT equivalent on staff right now"

"no injuries i almost ate it on this one"
BREAK
"COPA stand by there was in fact a back draft however we do not appear to have an active fire anymore I believe it burnt itself out"

" pumper 11 copies LFO"
' colwell, come with me and we'll get the 2 1/2 line'
" matthews to anders, floan, and van der water, colwell and i will bring down the 2 1/2 line, i am leaving my high rise pack laying in the hallway right near your location"
* i get up and begin to walk down the hallway and take my mask off since the air is clean and walk out to the truck and grab the 2 1/2 line*
' colwell drag this down to the boiler room and tell me when to charge it, i will be right behind you then'

"Cressler, I copy. BREAK COPA, We have a backdraft with no signs of fire or smoke. We may need a qualified investigator to check this out. Do we have one with ERT? BREAK LFO, I copy."
*I clip my mic back on my shoulder and continue searching.*
'I still got nothing. Let's go to the next room.'

((Cresslar, I remember that movie, where everyone was killed from the self-extinguishing backdrafts.))

*I get up after the fire exploded in my face.*

'Woah, Cresslar, you ok? Let me check this with the TIC real quick.'

*I look around the room, revealing some red spots here and there, but no visible fire.*

'Looks like the walls are a little hot, but no visible fire.'

Unhooking a fire hose inside the building I move to Cressler and put on my mask. "Is it safe in there?"

After hearing the Backdraft radio chatter I scramble to grab my mic: "Where do you need me guys?"

'Rodger should be i'm still a little shaken we haven't entered cause we don't have a line but it appears to be out.'

'Yeah, from the outside I don't see anything serious.'

( ok, so floan left me in charge and colwell hasnt been on so...)
* colwell drags the line to the buolding and down towards the basement and gives me the go ahead and i charge it to 120 psi*
* i walk in the school and follow the line towards the basement and meet up with colwell and everyone else*
" matthews to floan, colwell and i are in the basement at the site of the backdraft, we'll be checking for extension"
' hey guys, everyone alright, what needs to be done?'

As I get up from the backdraft I walk over to the guys

'That was really damn close'

*I walk out of the first smoking room with John and look back in. Smoke is still building up and flowing out of the windows. If there is a fire it must be in the chem room and getting in to this one by the broken door. I grab my line a little firmer and get ready to make entrance in the second one after the door is poped.

'I'll get that.'
*I pick up my tnt tool out of the first chem lab classroom and bring it back over to the second classroom door. I see pockets of smoke in the second chem lab classroom but no sign of actual fire. I see the windows are actually open but still smoke is inside.*
'Hey, we got smoke in here. BIts of it but its there.'
"Rescue 1 to COPA and all fire units, we've got pockets of smoke in the second chem lab. We're making entry as of now."
*I slam my tnt in the door jam and tilt it back hard pooping the door open. Some smoke eases out but visibility is still clear.*
'Alright man, lets go in.'
*I run back behind Anders and grab hold of the line.*

*I talk into my radio.*

"Davis to Hannahan, is it coming from the vents?"

"No, we possibly have the source."
*We move forward as I start looking for the fire.*
'I don't see it....has to be further in.'

"Is it in the chem room?"

"Affirmative."
'See anything JAck?'

After moving in about four feet Imove to tell the Lt. Negitive when I see smoke being sucked backwards into the room.
'Lt. Get out!'

I yell as I start to pace backwards with the nozzel pointed out. I see the flash begin and open up the nozzel to a shield pattern just as I hit the door way. The flames hit the shield and die as the room infront of us lights up in a firey glow. The fireball dies and I switch my nozzel to an attack pattern and begin to soak the flames in the room.

( alright, since no one in the basement is responding im assuming we're good)
' alright colwell, lets move back out and begin some re packing'
* un aware of what happened*
"matthews to any personell, have 2 bodies available for work, any one need assistance anywhere?"

'This place is a madhouse! What type of crazy school is this?!'
*I move forward again with Anders again.*
"Rescue 1 to COPA and LFO Raven, we had a light backdraft in the chem room. Small fire now but if it happens again, we may have to call in PFD."

" pump 11 command to rescue command, we have a 2 1/2" line and will start up that way"
' alright colwell, lets drag this freakin hose all the way up there now'

*I check the last room with the TIC and don't find anything.*

'Hey guys, let's head upstairs. I think it's good down here.'

*I move up with Lt. Hannahan behind me and keep water flowing. I look up and see fire running the ceiling so I point the nozzel up and knock out the tiles above. As they fall to the ground the break apart making a mess. I see that the fire hasn't affected the upper floor so after the fuel from the ceiling has been removed I move to the dividing wall. I notice this is the class room part of the Chemistry room, the other part must have been the lab. I don't see any cabinets, just stacks of books and wood and metal desks. I keep spraying down the dividing wall until the flames have deminished. I start over on the objects in the room.

'Lt. I think we may have gotten lucky, I don't see any chemical cabinets.'

( Im Back , Good Job on my absence Tim. )

" Pump-11 Command to Pump-11 Matthews, exit the basement and head back upstairs to the 3rd with Anders and Hannahan. BREAK COPA, Pump-11 command we have positive contact on the 3rd floor. "

* I look at jack and Hannahan working in the room. *

' Jack u guys ok over there. do we Need hazmat? '

( haha thanks, havent really done much, its been real slow on here)
" got that lieu, do you want the 2 1/2" line or do you want us to return to our high rise packs up there?"
* i stand still with colwell and listen to my radio for a reply*

'Nah, we don't have any hazmat here and we don't need your guys to lug a whole nother line up here.'
*I get off of the line and start opening cabinets and drawers only seeing harmless rocks and textbooks on the desks.*

" Pump-11 Command to Matthews, Lt Hannahan has no need for additional support on this floor, you can Kill the line and report up here for overhaul. "

(i'm lost haha)
*I look at davis*
'Alright lets go'

*I turn to Cresslar with a puzzled look on my face.*

'Go where? Upstairs?'

" Pump-11 Command to ALL units on scene, we have fire on the 3rd floor Chemistry lab. If you all need direction then please come on up here, Has the 2nd Floor been checked yet? "

* I look over at Hannahan who is working with Jack in the fire room, i walk over to him and put my hand on his shoulder to talk close to him. *

' John, your men are unsure as to how to proceed below, do you wanna handle that and I'll take over here. ? '

'Please, can't do two things at once haha.'
*I talk to Jack.*
'Jack, you're under your TO again.'
*I pat him on the back and leave the room.*
"Rescue 1 and Squad 1 crew, is it clear in the basement?"

"Davis to Hannahan, it's clear down here."

'Idk where i'm still confused from that explosion'

'They have fire upstairs, let's go and help out.'

'rodger i'm on you'

*I start my way downstairs and meet the guys on the second floor.*
'Hey um, they're just overhauling up there. Fire is pretty much out and Davis, you told me that its clear so Imma take your word and go with it so there isn't much need to go back in the basement. I do want you guys checked out after that explosion so I'm going to call for a BLS unit from PEMS soon. No need for any more tools either so my guys pack up and wait for PEMS. I can't tell you Squad guys what to do so uhhh, check with Raven and we'll go from there.'
"Rescue 1 to COPA."
*I put my mic down and wait for a response.*

"got it floan"
* colwell and i drag the line back out and walk it out and load it back onto the truck*
' alright lets start doing the worst part of the job, overhaul'
* i grab a pike pole and head back up to the 3rd with floan*
' whatcha need lt?'

*I grab a TNT tool and head upstairs with Tim.*
