Kayaking Accident

MU1 respond

((Be back tomorrow evening.))

*I hear the alarm and run downstairs. I grab my jacket out of the passenger seat and put it on. Then I wait for Jansen.*

'Hey boss, who's the command diver for this call?'

'Your in command Chuck, I know ya want it. Now go drive' I say putting in my jacket and open the bay door

"Boys, I just got word from the Rangers, they got contact, one guy is in the water, but holding on to his boat, the other is out cold. Rough waters, so the rangers can't take their boat out"

*I jump into the driver's seat and pick up the radio.*

"Copy that Burke, Marine 1 responding."

*I start the truck and flip on the lights. I take off the parking brake and close the door. I back up and Jansen hooks up the boat trailer. Then I put on my headset and shift into drive. Once Jansen jumps in, I pull out of the bay. I turn on the Powercall and wail. When we get to the intersection, I switch the siren to Intersection and honk the horns.*

I start putting on my wetsuit on the way in.
'Chuck, any info on water temp, water currents, that sort of info? '

'All I know is that the water's cold and it's moving fast. The Rangers can't even get the boat out.'

*I honk the horn as cars pull over and I keep heading towards the scene.*

(Did you guys take the boat? That's kinda important...)
"MU, rangers are reporting rough waters, and a light mist. "

((I thought the waters were too rough for a boat? I'll fix it...Check my post up there, got it.))

*I pull up to the park gate and turn off the sirens. I roll down the window as a gaurd walks up to me.*

'Hello guys, are you here for the kayak accident?'
'Yes we are.'
'Go right ahead.'
'Thanks!'

*I drive into the park and down the narrow roads. I use the signs to find my way to the river and see the flashing lights of the rangers' car.*

'Hey guys, where can we drop the boat off?'
'Just go straight down that way.'
'Ok, thanks!'

*I drive the truck over to the lauch site and back the trailer into the water.*

'Alright Jansen, here we are.'

(If they were too rough for a boat, you'd be getting a helicopter, certainly not swimming! They ahve a small boat, we have a military grade RIB, it ain't going down, plus you guys are divers, and we have a trillion dollar budget. It can be replaced. Out of your salaries though )

"MU Please copy my last transmission"

"MU copies."

*I get out and head to the trailer. I unhook the boat and lower it into the water.*

I start gearing up further and get out the bottles start putting on my vest.
'How do ya wanne do it Chuck?'

'Uh let's get the boat out first. I'm gonna call for a medic too, we're gonna need it.'

*I grab the lines out of the truck and throw them on the boat. Then I throw get out my wet and dry suits. I put them both on and hop into the boat. I start up the propeller and flip on the lights. Before we leave, I pick up the radio.*

"MU to COPA, we're requesting a medic. We're gonna need one."

As I sit in the boat I put on my fins and face mask.
'Chuck, I see the kayak overthere' I say pointing towards the kayak with one vic hanging on to it
'Do you have a visual on the other vic?'

"Understood, requesting any available medic unit to scene"

'Uhh no, I'm sure he's over there somewhere.'

*I push the throttle and we get moving. After a little while on the water, we approach the kayak.*

'Alright Jansen, let's get all ready. You're goin in. The other guy is just laying over that log, so make sure he doesn't fall in.'

* We start bobbing through the never ending line of cars that dont slow down or pull to the right. I look over adn actually see 1 car pass us. I throw my hand up at him and he laughs and drives faster. I switch our frequencies to COPA *

" COPA, Medic 2 is responding to the Kayaking accident, Our ETA is approx 7 Minutes out. BREAK Medic 2 to MU-1 can you give us a Status on any of the patients at this time. "

'Seems people think we're a joke huh?'
I begin picking up speed and overtake a car when the other lane is clear, I then switch over towards the slow lane and take the exit closest to the Accident and make a left towards where it supposedly is, I begin slowing down and tap the steering wheel thinking of a song.

"MU to Medic 2, Burke said one is out cold, and by the looks of it, he is. The other is in the water, we're bringing him out shortly."

" Medic 2 copies MU-1, we're pulling up on scene now. "

* Don pulls us up behind the Dive unit. I get out and jog over to the edge to watch the rescue. *

" COPA, Medic 2 on scene. "

*I put the ambulance in High Idle and get out and follow close behind Jamie.

((What does 'out cold' stands for? My English is good, but I don't understand that ;p))

'Okay, i'm going in' I say as we approach the kayak.
I put on my regulator and dive in.

After a short swim I get to the vic who is hangin' from his kayak.
I grab him and swim back to the RIB

'Davis, he is really cold, we've got to bring him back quick' I say taking out my regulator with the vic in my arms

'Copy that. Let's get him on the boat fast.'

(('Out cold' means that he's unconcious.))

((colloquialisms, or common sayings don't always translate well, he probabaly understood it as the poor fellow is outside and chilly. No unconscious, no worries))

"COPA M2 Copy, Command, situation please?"

"MU Command to COPA, we're bringing in the first victim now. He's very cold, almost positive he has hypothermia.

I hop in the boat as Chuck takes over the vic

( Since Burke would like the calls finished up by tonight can we please get these people to shore :-) )

" MU-1, Medic 2 we are standing by at the shore, ready to receive the victims. "

((Sure thing!))

'Jansen, bring in the next guy, and we'll be ready to roll.'

'Got it' I say and swim over to the other vic who is holding a tree in the water.

After I got him I bring him to shore and start putting my gear off

( in the interest of ending the call and going to the new forum im gonna end this is a very crude way so just fyi on that. )

* Don and I load the patients on to the ambulance don asks how to go tot he ETC. *

' Code 3 will be fine Don lets just get there. '

* Don puts the rig in gear and we head towards the Trauma Center. *

(Got it, np.)

We pack up and head back
