*I read the EAT message and hear COPA over the radio and I reply to COPA*

"PC-1 to COPA I'll be on the checkpoint, I'm already here"

*I grab my hat and put it on and await more units for instructions*

I pull our car back onto the interstate, seeing Booth's PC-1 and SUP-2 behind us as we head down the Interstate, and as we make a U-Turn to pull the car just ahead of where I see the first trucks pulling onto the Interstate I pick up the radio and transmit to other units.
"CE-1 to all units involved in Checkpoint, rolling roadblock is being started at Fifth Avenue, will require two more cars to block all lanes, then we'll start allowing cars through, COPA intervene if tactic not allowed, over." I put the radio back and await support

"Just confirming that you are starting on the overpass at fifth, not on fifth right? Lets shut down the northbound lane, have the left two for civilian, and the second from the outside for commerical, we'll park everyone on the right and shoulder then"

    *To TAC Units*
"All TAC personnel not currently on a scene, please report to complex, sign out a spare patrol car (the crown vic ones) and report in the area to await instructions from the supervisor at the road block"
    Through EAT
TAC units called into base to take the spares. There's 4 guys, if you include the Training Officer, and three spares. Each takes a spare, and if the TO comes along, he can take either his POV or the UMC, depending on what he arrives in. Some units to be allocated on the highway itself, the others on the lookout for road block bypassers on the other roads. Possibly get someone on the north east onramp in industrial, that way we can catch anyone skipping our path, such as Commerical trucks that are REQUIRED to go to the interstate to get to the north east region (no commercial traffic through that kinds of areas)

"CE-1 confirming, we are starting at the Fifth Avenue, not on. We're gonna start slowing down the flow of traffic, and bring them to a standstill shortly when back-up arrives" I put the radio back on the dash and turn on the rear lights and start to slowly weave across the lanes to slow the cars behind me as I wait for support before closing the lanes and getting commercial vehicles over.

**I drive to the Interstate, getting on at the 5th Avenue on-ramp, and see the other patrol cars, I Flash my lights once or twice, and then pull over to the shoulder behind another patrol car.**

    "Bucello is on scene."

**I check behind me for traffic and get out of the car.**

"COPA, is there a variable message sign in front of the checkpoint? If so, we should display a message moving trucks into checkpoint lanes. Also, wouldn't we want the right lanes to be non-checkpoint lanes? Those are the lanes that will be used to get off the highway."

Post by C. Jackson Thu May 05, 2011 10:33 am

I brake and put CE-1 into a fend-off, so Lane 4 (Nearest the Shoulder is blocked.) I climb out with my traffic vest and quickly grab some signs out the boot as the director bar and rear boot lights turn on. I run down the Interstate and place a COMMERCIAL VEHICLE CHECKPOINT sign down a few hundred yards from the Magnum and then another hundred yards behind that, a PULL ONTO SHOULDER sign down. "CE-1 is blocking Lane 1 whilst we get all the Commercial vehicles onto the shoulder." I say into the radio as I start waving over the Trucks and Vans to the shoulder, whilst the cars merge with other traffic about two hundred yards ahead. I hear Ledger's message and reply back. "CE-1 SUP-2, if you can, cover that for a few minutes, then come down to assist with checks. Over." I put my radio back and keep waving.

(Bucello, we're using the right lanes, since they'll just go round our car, and we only disrupt one lane of traffic for the checkpoint, rather than two, since for the moment, we're just using Lane 4 and the Shoulder.)

(Runs differently in Britain I think, or it doesn't just we have other side driving, ah well will edit that later.)

"Copy SUP-2, we've got vehicles on the shoulder now, about three or four semis, and a few more in traffic, as well as a few vans." I put my radio back in and wave a few more vehicles past the checkpoint, before heading back to the Magnum to cone a merging section for the other two lanes.

"COPA to scene command, we've got an off ramp to industrial, but you guys should be set up before that, and that's the only off ramp for northbound, as the interstate starts at the end of it.. There should be four lanes, two for regular traffic to fly through it all, one for commercial and one for us to park our cars and take other vehicles should they need to be investigated further. Those readings are from centre of road to the outside.

"CE-1 Sergeant Ledger is enroute. Over." I say as I finish coning off Lane 4 for a while, and make it so vehicles will merge back a lot further north, but can still reach the off ramp. I shout over at the arriving units, and realise they can't hear me, so I start to head back to the other guys, a minute or so later I shout over. 'Hey guys, when you get a unit, divert them into this section and check out their equipment, alright?' I ask

(They've already arrived at the checkpoint, read back for some numbers.)

I grab some of the measuring stuff out the back of the Magnum and put it on the hood and in front of the car, so we can get to it quickly. I turn back to Booth. 'Ok, check Tire Tread, Log Books and Licences and stuff, you know the drill yeah?' I ask as I see the cars start to understand what they should be doing.

**I go over to see what Ledger is pointing to. The trailer tires look as though they're barely meeting minimum requirements. I go back to the driver's window.**

'Sir, it looks as though the registration on the truck is expired. Judging by the date, it's a $75 fine. One other thing: the trailer tires look worn. They meet minimum requirements, but the fine for worn tires is at least three digits, depending on how bad they are. Alright?'

    **I write a ticket for $75.**

'You can either pay that fine by that date in red, or challenge it in court by the same date. If you don't pay the fine by then, the fine doubles.'

    **The driver takes the ticket.**

Checkpoint on Interstate Empty Re: Checkpoint on Interstate

**I make a note of the license plate number and get on the highway patrol frequency.**

"Attention any available highway patrolman: we have a semi that ran a checkpoint. California tags Kilo Five Mike X-ray One Four. Truck has a white paint scheme with no logos. Vehicle was last seen northbound on the Phoxlind Thruway."

((I know other agencies weren't supposed to be involved, but this is passive involvement; no highway patrol cars are going to respond. They'll just make a report and pull the vehicle over when they find it.))

*I go up to the next truck and request the license and registration*

'Good evening sir, License and registration please'
    'No problem, Officer'
*He hands me his info and I walk back to my PC and run his info, and he comes back clean*
*I hand his info back to him and say*

'Thank you sir, you came back clean, Have a nice day well night i guess'

*I then walk to the next truck and do the same*

((just btw because he didnt stop doesn't mean he'll run if we try and stop him..))

*I run back to my car quick and hop in and start it. I throw on my lights and flip on the yelp and head after the trucker. About 5 miles down the road I catch up to him and stager into the next lane so he sees my lights. He then turns on his right turn indicator and moves over lanes and gets off the shoulder and parks. I pull up behind him and park. I then get out and unholster my pistol just for safety and hold it along my leg as I walk up to the tractor. And look up at the window.*

'hello officer, why are you stopping me?'

'You ran that checkpoint we had back there?'

'Oh damn! I didn't even see it. I just got stopped by a trooper about 35 miles back. He did his check on my truck.'

*I holster my sidearm.* 'Did you get any tickets? Can I check your log?'

'No tickets, yeah here you go.' *hands log*

*I look at his log.* 'All good here.' *I write down his lisence and hand him back his log and lisence* 'Look out next time sir, have a nice day'

    'You too officer.'

*I walk back to my car hop in and drive off back to the checkpoint. I then get off the freeway to head back the opposite direction.*

*I walk to my squad car, take my hat off and sit in my cruiser, I then pick up my mic and radio the lieutenant*

"PC-1 to Lt. Libor permission to clear the checkpoint?"

(sounds good, everyone kind of disapeared right before the call.)
"pc-6 to pc-1, you can clear if not needed."
