A variety, the majority are Vauxhall Astras, there are also some Ford Focuses and Hyundais that are being trialled, Ford Transits as Prisoner Vans, some BMW 3 Series, both Estate and Standard in use as the Area Car, as well as BMW 5 Series, as Armed Response and Traffic and Mercedes Sprinters as Public Order Vehicles, and there's some other stuff used as well, but that's the basics.

Well that's probably tradition. For example I don't like the Q-siren very much Razz
However there is change in the air, the EU has a new "standard" siren I think, which is a wail siren. Here is an example. One of the new German Red Cross ambulances. Love the lights on it.

Yes, efficiency is a key factor. Size is another. Take Bergen for example, I lived there for a year. There are a lot of tiny streets you have to get through to reach a fire, and if you've got a huge truck, you get stuck. In more rural parts you have to contend with very narrow and twisty roads.

The one thing I prefer about American Engines to the LFB's Engines, is the personalisation of their trucks, and kinda pride in the company they're it. Like in the FDNY, each truck's liveried with their logo, their company number, some even have dinosaurs on the roof, in London, I can only tell which station it's from by a small panel on the side of the cab, and that's hard to see sometimes, and there's no, wow, we're so and so company, like Ten Truck or whatever.

But I think Euro and US engines are built for different environments as well, Euro Trucks have to get down the small roads, they're more multipurpose than US Engines, and in London at least, our Ladder Platforms are just that, Ladder Platforms. Whilst the US have larger roads, and more Trucks, so you can carry more stuff between the companies.

Yeah. Like we have all the huge highways and even the sidestreets by my house are pretty wide. But you're right, each company has their own logo, paint job, and a lot of them have little slogans.

Hah, you'd never get that through the narrow city streets over here. Hell, in some places you wouldn't even get out of the fire station! xD No offence, but I don't really like american style trucks. I prefer the euro ones. That's probably because I grew up with those as the image of how a firetruck is supposed to look like Wink

That's why I hated them and they looked so weird but the only euro fire trucks I like are Scania's. I respect those...those are nice XD.

No, we don't. Our trucks are built for more style and power, not so much efficeintcy. The roads are wide so a truck could easily fit through. That's not a problem here at all, maybe in some really small rural areas, but not too many places.

I just love that extra step we take in america the individualality of every truck it's that pride we take in personalizing and alot of times overdoing our trucks just to look cooler or be louder or stick out that little extra bit. It's overdoing it and trying to one up everyone else...the american dream haha

I don't think paid vs. volunteer is what depends on who has nicer trucks.

Whether they're going to a paid or volly department they're all built the same according to the order, and they all do the same job. Lights are either custom or from the manufacturer though.

I mean, in my paid department, the majority of the engines are Pierce Quantums from the late 90's to early 2000's, but they still work fine. The other engines are from around 2008, including the Ladder, and all of the deputy and battalion chief cars. And all of the lights have been updated to LED's on all apparatus , and everything has Chevrons now, they can just hire a company to do it, or we are luck to have somebody involved with the department do it for us.

I suppose it's because the Vollies are only now getting their chance to replace their Tankers and Engines from the 80s or 90s. I know FDNY try to replace most apparatus inside 10 years, some VFDs will take more than that earning the money.

I wanna show you guys my imaginary department Click here and follow the links Wink

All seriousness, I'll come with some constructive criticism. If you want to make the text look like part of the unit, try and use the colours on it already. IE for vehicles where I'm writing ERT in white, I don't just use stock white, I eye drop a white off the unit. It'll probably be a grey, but it's white on that background and it blends nicely, another thing to watch is shadows. Also if you ever get into picture logos, they're really easy to do, just get one, fit it to the size, and make it taller than it is wide to create the effect of it being plastered on the door Wink
    Like here: https://2img.net/h/i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg207/ertrpg/ERT%20FD%20Station%201/station1chief.png
It looks like it's perfect fit, when really it's more of an oval than a perfect circle. It's an easy way to make your units yours with almost no hard work Wink

I use photoshop, and I'm going to assume Jansen does as well, as not many programs will let you bend text, so if he does, and even if he doesn't, the little tips I gave him can make his units totally indistinguishable from the real thing... Just gotta know how to use your tools to make a masterpiece

You can download a trial of CS5 for a month, but it's hardly enough tim eot explore it in it's full reign of awesomeness. If you wanna get just the basic photoshop, it's a lot cheaper though, Master suite (mine) runs retial $2599.00
