I remember when I first joined ERT....

Post by T. Matthews on Wed Aug 03, 2011 3:34 pm

Thought this would be a cool way to bring back memories, both good and bad.

You can talk about how you joined, why you joined, what your very first assignment was, very first run, who you liked here, who you didnt like, what trucks were used then, anything you want!

    I'll start

When I first joined I remember I kept pm ing burke asking when the first call was going to be and he said tonight so i stayed home from my brothers hockey game to be on the call thinking i had to be there the second he "set off the tones" and that it was a fast paced game..and we never did get one that night, haha

All I remember was that I joined with my friend who was in an unmarked PD car at the time (Later left due to personal issues), and that EMS units were vanbulances instead of the ones we use now (The E or F series Fords with Boxes)

My first call was in the EMS center, for a severe stomach flu. That was back when I actually had a partner. Heh, I joined all of a week or so before the Phoxlind Attacks.

rofl, cunt nugget. My first call was um....the MVA on the old ERT right after the Gas bar hit and run. I was on EMP and looking through things and I think Mitch's link brought me here. I had no idea how I was supposed to do things but I found out and worked from there. I didn't not like anyone. Nobody got on my nerves personally so that's why. I did join because I liked the fire department and this looked cool. I waited for the next call (the Motor Vehicle Accident) so eagerly and when it came, I never got off of the computer. My first goal was to say something in every topic just to see my name on every new post topic haha. At that time, Agency was there and Jimeny was online and this is back when Garcia was still P-11's Lt.

Yeah, it was R. Rodgers. I don't remember my first call, but I do remember that gas bar hit & Run hannahan mentioned. I was there for that, think I may have been around for at least a few weeks at that point.

I first joined in uhh september of last year, my first account was D. Lidner, I was assaigned to P-11, and left mid call at a school fire I think, I had a lot of things going on then, I then rejoined in december i think under the name A. Blanc on PC-1, I was on there for a while before, well im not gona say why, but most of you know why. I then rejoined for the last time in june or may or something like that under my current account. I really wasnt excited or nothing, but I enjoy doing this, and I've learned how to use photoshop in between the spaces of accounts, so uh yea. I guess its been ok here.

Heh. I'll be the newest member to post. I've been here 2 or 3 months now. I found it from a link on em4life's signature at EMP. I asked to join traffic not knowing if it even existed. I just sat and read for like a week waiting to get in. My first call was with Charlie Jackson pulling over a semi. Even in te short period of time I've been here, Ive felt very welcomed and accepted. I hope I can stick around for a while, I like it a lot.

The interesting post is this one Razz

I remember starting this, sitting down, wanting to do a game, but not having the skill to make a new game, so I decided to make a web based one, after seeing something similar with fire only that existed but died because it was just one service.

Anywho, I remember my first three members, it was before we enforced the name policy, so we had three guys, C. Curtis, Daniel and the guy that now hosts everything for me, Joachim Oren. They were respectively a police officer, doctor and EMS OC. We did calls, and then I closed down to move to joining another site. We merged, (as seen in History) And yeah, that was it. It was a lot of small calls, and a lot of story telling

I don't even remember what my first call was. I know that my background story for coming here is coming to see Doug or something because we were friends. I think the first one I did on my own was a medical.

Garcia lol As for my first call i'm not really sure.... I have also been on L-1 SEV-1 and P-11... I have also learned a crap ton about all ES

    Me: ((WTF????))
Yeah, that was my exact reaction. I was very surprised that that could even happen.
I remember I was on P-11 then went L-1 then Lt. of L-1 now Lt. of R1 with a crazy crew haha jk.

    Yeah, oh Galligano!

I remember I was on the old site. I was on the ladder with Raven and we were in the midst of our manhole rescue and the site shut us down! So we moved here and I was still on the ladder with McEvoy and Raven. I forget who was on the pumper besides Garcia...

Then there was this huge member boom when Hannahan and everyone joined. I got transferred to the squad, Station 2 was opened, and now everything kinda slowed down...

And yeah Burke, I was on the old site, do you remember me? Razz

Nobody remembers you! haha, I'm kidding. Um, Oh I remember tying to use an AED but Burke said we had difibs and I kinda got stuck. Yea then Galligano got back up and walked off after a dizzy spell. I remember when we we're on a school fire call on the old version of this ERT (i guess it would be called that) and galligano yelled backdraft!!! I just got up from my computer and walked away. I refreshed my page after I came back and saw Burke yelling at him. I think that he would've been a fine ff but he played too much and everything became kinda unrealistic. I miss the vanbulances though and I kinda miss the small sigs too.

I think the gas explosion this time was in reference to the old ERT one, and chuck, the site died during what is now the phoxlind attacks, I remember because I wanted to turn it into a book, but it never finished

What I want to do is get the ERT itself functioning, then I'm going to pick a few people who will be training officers, and they'll run a mini world ERT in the Training Academy, with cadets, and that'll last a few months, then they'll do real life appointments, and after that, they'll receive a full stationing.

I think we'll need about 5 staff, and a flow of members of about 10 to 15 at any time for the Training Academy to work

i honestly dont think that would work to well unlless you have completly dedicated new people, i mean to be honest we are struggling with keeping new people for more than 2 weeks, if they are forced to go through this training academy i think they will get bored a lot quicker

well the thing is it would be a lot more active than calls, since you guys get like a day break between calls, and this will give them a chance not only to have a call almost every day, but also a chance for them to hold idfferent ranks a probie could never hold. It'd be done something along the lines of post an info sheet, run a call, post another info class, run training, post a call, run training, another call, then off to station assignments, then into actual jobs

I'D rather have 1 person that last years rather than 20 that last 2 weeks. Use it to find out who is intrested to cut out trouble/ inactivity.

Exactly, plus with training academy, everyone will be given simple little generic avatars and what not, so if they drop out I only waste 2 minutes setting them up, not 30.

As a new member who's been a round a few months so far, I can honestly say I would have stayed through training. I don't know if after more than 2 months of training, I might have gotten frustrated, feeling like I wasn't making any headway. Perhaps the recruits, when this does eventually open up again, could receive a schedule of some sort. (Weeks 1-2 are basic skills, weeks 3-6 are road course, or however you do it). I think being able to see the progress and knowing how much longer before you can get on the road would help them out a lot.

i wouldn't do six weeks at the academy, maybe a total of two weeks, which would cover ERT basics, then move on to more advanced things, such as actual full out calls. Think like in video games, the training, where it starts off like stupid controlled things, where you're just doing one or two items, and then it becomes a full out call you're left to work on by yourself.

After a week or two of that, then they'd receive a three week appointment as a cadet to a station, and the Truck officer would grade them, then they would be appointed based on grading and recommendations.

I think for police we should have them do one month of academy, then have a FTO who they ride with the second month because with LEO reading books will only get so far and a FTO will teach them how it works on the streets rather than a controlled enviroment.

The way I plan on running the academy for police is the way I intended in the old old ERT.

It would be set up, they would come in on a weekly basis, along with all the other cadets, and receive a basic ERT explanation. That would happen on Monday, Wednesday would be their first police class. They would be assigned a PD instructor and the cadets then would receive their first instruction class, which would be the instructor explaining the ERT PD basics, and responses. Then on Thursday, they would practice responses, patrol responses, and traffic stops. Friday would be a continuance of it, and then Saturday would be another class on instruction, which would be large scenes.

Sunday would be the start of a training call for them, a TAC call, they are required to secure the scene and then conduct a perimeter search after TAC has secured the structure (instructor will godmod civilians and TAC)

By Wednesday, they'll be ready for a three to four day class, of simulated training, where the instructor would give calls and they would respond. After that finishes, so either saturday or sunday, they would receive an assignment from me, and their final isntructor class from their PD instructor. I would then send them off with TOs in the field and they would spend a month or two riding with them, and pending recommendations would be assigned a unit, either alone or together, as well as their division. At this time, they would also receive a report of their pros and cons from their training from the instructor, ie what they need to work on and what they don't need to, and their TO, as in what they need to work well in the field. Their field time, I'd like to train them in both patrol, police and multi-tier calls.

Kay... I was just reacting to your comment previously of saying a few months... Which you've now shortened to two weeks...

I'm not trying to cause trouble. I'm not sure how this keeps happening.

A few weeks of classes for police yes, then a month or two in the field as probies. I don't want to keep people in the academy for months, doing the same redundant tasks, and then make them probies for another month or two afterwords. Fire would be a little longer in the academy, just because there is so much more they are supposed to know, so it would take maybe three or four weeks for fire, but their probie calls would be set at 4 calls or something similar.

This would make things better both on scene as well as make it easier for newbies.
