Fort Basio Joint SAR Operation

"RA1 COPA, we're 3-5 out can you advise what the persons were wearing and what weather conditions were since they have gone missing?"
***3-5 min later***
"RA1 is on the scene coordinating with the on scene commander."

I swerve through traffic with Jansen on the air horn. Most of the commuters move out of the way, except for one who is on his mobile phone. I honk and use the siren to eventually make him move over. I continue to drive until I get near Fort Basio Road, thats when I turn off the siren and drive to the end. I grab the COPA radio and update them.

"Squad 1 on-scene with RA1. Should begin search soon. Squad 1 out." We all hop out of the truck and I see the other rescue squad we will be working with gearing up. I decide to take my turnout jacket with me so I can warm the victims of a little.

"Jansen, what are the orders?"

*I pull up next to the squad and shut the sirens off, jump out and gear up with my water rescue gear*
"Botfish to Florain or Floan. I am geared up and ready to go once they have been located"

*I trun the heat on in the RA, grab my EMS vest and throw it on as I get off the truck. I head to the back and grab .9 NS and thorw 4 of them on the warmer.*

"RA1 to COPA, do we have any other EMS units responding since we have 3 person missing, all potentially hypothermic."

"COPA RA-1, we've got only got the one unit on scene until we find someone. Advise when you find someone, then we'll send needed additionals."

I open the door and put on my helmet as I climb out of the truck and look around for the rest of the crew. I hear Mitch asking for orders and look around to see the rest of the units turning up. I wait for the orders and take a note of the area in my head.

As I hop out the Squad I walk to Lt. Col. Richardson.

'Hello Sir, I'm Deputy TO for Squad 1 and OSC for the ERT, Florian Jansen'
'Hey, I'm Lt. Col. Richardson, thanks for coming over here, we got 3 persons missing, and don't got radio contact with 'em.

'Okay, here's my plan. Our HRES officer we'll go with your helo and fly to the ponds trying to find them, your SAR team will go to one several pond, and we'll go to a several pond, the paramedic will go with us, since we are only EMT's. How does that sound?'

'Good to me, I will give them the orders now, I'll keep in touch with you'
'Okay, we are on the ERT Fire Frequency 1'
'Got it.'

I grab my radio and press the PTT button
"Jansen to SEV, go to the SAR helo and fly to the ponds, see if you can spot them, if you find them, radio me BREAK Jansen to RA, join us, we're going to check several ponds and need a paramedic BREAK Jansen to Squad personnel, gear up for SAR ops then come over to me BREAK Jansen to COPA, Do you have a map of the area? we're going to start SAR ops in a minute or 5, out."

"COPA to command team, assuming we've got the RA staying behind to wait for the injured?"

"Command to COPA, that's a better idea, thanks for the suggestion, you guys got an area map for me? BREAK Command to RA, please remain on scene, standby for victims, out"

I head back to the truck and open up the compartment with the SAR equipment in, and get one set out for me, and leave the compartment door open as I put it on the floor and quickly check it's not damaged before picking it back up, and starting to head towards Florian.

"RA1 is standing by for patients."

"Copy RA 1" I get a trauma bag and a stabilisation bag and wait for the other to be ready

"10-4 recieved"
*I grab some extra rope and head over to the helo*
'Hey guys! I'll be flying with you today'
Pilot: ok, let's go!
*I hop in the back and put on my seatbelt as the helicopter starts up. I then put on my headset*
"HRES Botfish to Jansen, I am flying"
*We take off and start searching the area*

**10 minutes later**

"HRES Botfish to Jansen, still nothing we are continuing our search"
*We continue to searchthe ponds*

"Command to Botfish, copy, we'll be going once everyone is ready, please update regulary BREAK Command to COPA, we have the helo in the air and searching, out"

"No available detailed maps exist, the only data we have for this area is from the maps we currently have on file"

"Command copies" I release the ptt button and get a backboard from the squad. 'Okay guys, lets get geared up, Mitch, Jackson, Davis, get geared up for SAR ops'

((I'm a paramedic))

I run to the side of the truck get my SAR gear aswell as the ALS bag.

"Jansen I'm geared up, I also have the ALS bag with me."

** 30 minutes later **

'Hey, do you see that?'
Pilot: yes
'fly over him'
*The pilot flys over him and we notice its the soldier*
"Botfsh to Jansen, we have found the soldier.
*I hook up and go down*
'Are you ok?'
Soldier: yeah, get me out of here
'ok hold on were are the 2 girls you were with?'
Soldier: I don't know we went different ways
'ok can you please put this on?'
*The soldier gears up in the harness and I connect us both to the rope and we get pulled up*
"Botfish to Jansen, I have rescued the soldier and we are heading back with him"
*We fly back and land and I take him to the rescue ambulance*
'Here is the soldier. unknown vitals. Seems to be fine'

(Sorry for the lack of detail, I was typing it earlier and accidently exited it and didn't feel like typing the whole thing again)

"Copy Jansen."
*I see the others gearing up, so I grab 200' of rope and a harness. I also get an EMT bag. Than I head over to Jansen.*
'Alright, I'm ready to head out. We've just gotta find the girls now. They should be together.'

*I walk back over to the trucks*
'Hey, is it ok if I tag along with you guys?'

*I take the soldier in to the truck. Vitals are within normal limits, EKG shows A-fib.*
'Sir I need to take your temp.'
*I take his temp and get 89.*
"RA1 to COPA, can I have a BLS unit respond to my location. I have a male soldier approx. 30 y/o with a temp of 89, EKG shows controlled A-fib, patient needs eval and internal warming. No appearent frost bite."

"Confirmed, requesting M-5 to scene"

*I turn onto the road, flipping the sirens off and drive to the end of the road, parking beside the RA and turning off the lights. I pick up the mic.*

"Medic 5 on-scene."

*I then get out, snagging the jump kit and walk over to the RA.*

"Whatcha need?"

'This guy's ready to go, he's a BLS tranport. I have a Core temp of 89, Pulse 90, with EKG showing A-fib, B/P 110/70, Resp. 16. He has no frostbite on any extremity and everything else appears normal, just needs transport, eval and warming at the ER.'
*I help Angus and his partner load the pt. up in to M5.*

"Okay."

*I load the patient up with the assistance of Hutchisson and Chet.*

"Peace out."

*I climb into the cab with Chet in the back and pick up the mic.*

"Medic 5 en route to the ER, code 1."

*I pull out of the scene and onto the Trulit Interpass, heading for the hospital.*

(Vic Count 2 still missing, 1 found and transported)

As the soldier is transported I head to Austin ´Austin, where did you find him? and do you know where the split up? My plan is to go there and search from there, I'll request the helo to be our eye in the sky, everyone agrees?

"ERT Command to SAR Helo, could you go fly over the area and try to spot the missing girls"
"SAR Helo to ERT Command, copy"

As I put on my gear we start walking while Botfish tells me where he found the Lt. Col.

'I found him on the edge of 1 of the ponds. And I don't know were they split up, he hardly told me anything'
*we continue walking and looking*

'Okay, then we'll split up once we're there, everyone got 'nuff water with them?'

"Command to COPA, we are heading down to the pond where the soldier was found and split up from there"
We continue walking to the pond

((going to work, im back around 22:30 GMT + 1 or 17:00 GMT + 1 tomorrow))

'Yup!'
*I say holding out a water bottle*
'and, I don't think the girls would be alone. So, they're probably together'

"COPA to command, copy, report when arriving. BREAK Botfish, are you on the ground out there?"

"Affirmative. Do you want me in the helicopter?"

"I want you out there on the scene with any needed equipment if you're not already there please" I say with a nice tone in my voice
*I check the information and report what I've already got back to the Base Commander, Brigadier General Lloyd Hiscock

*I pull up next to the RA and get out. I walk over.*

"Any new patients?"

*I walk back to the truck and get ready*
"Botfish to florian, let me know if you need anything"

"Copy Austin" I say and continue walking

((going to sleep, back around 1700 GMT+1))

'Nothing right now. And you guys be ready for another hypothermic, but I have a feeling that something bad is out there.'

"All right. We'll be ready."

*I walk back over to the unit and climb in, turning on the radio.*

"Alright guys, time to start the search. I've got the backboard and the ALS bag. Where should we start"

I say while leaning against the squad and looking at the ALS supplies. I take a sip of Red Bull, and put it back in the truck.

'We are gonna start where Botfish found the soldier, from there we'll see if there is a trail or something, let's go' After walking for a time we reach the place where the soldier was found

"Jansen to COPA, we arrived at the place where the soldier was found, searching for trails now"

I look around 'Anyone sees anything?'

"RA1 to Jansen, I have an army medic standing by with me here, her reports that the Army SAR guys have something to the east of your postion, they need you to bring a fire extingusher though. The is a medical emergency present at that location, do you want me to head that way? They have one of the 2 girls, unconscious with an unknow speices of snake laying under her shirt."

(Vic count 1 transport, 1 found, 1 still missing.)

"Jansen to RA1, uhh Botfish should be with you to, I'll let him come over with 2 extinguishers, I need you to standby for the vic, possible hypothermia, and maybe snakebites, I have a paramedic with me BREAK Jansen to Botfish, bring over 2 exthinguisers, we have found one girl east of our posistion, with a snake under her shirt BREAK Command to COPA, one girl is found, going to rescue her now"

'You hear that guys? lets go! I say as I start running/jogging towards the vic

"Coming in a hurry over"
*I grab 2 fire extuinguishers from the truck and start running that way*

"RA1 to Jasen, When you get there please advise type of snake, so we can notify ETC to get the correct antivenom ready."

I start to follow Jansen as he runs towards the victim, I look around, a bit scared about the fact that there's a snake, but the adrenaline kicked in as I followed behind the others with my equipment.
